Linda Szentes and Jazzlinks
Linda Szentes is a versatile singer who has performed throughout the Lower Mainland as a choral singer, soloist and church musician for over twenty years. Her lifelong love of jazz led her to form Jazzlinks – a four-five piece jazz ensemble featuring two melodic instruments – voice and trumpet/flugelhorn – and rhythm section. The core members of this group are long-time friends and accomplished musicians; Roy Sluyter, piano; Johan Worst, bass; Terry Keller, trumpet/flugelhorn. For this Vespers service we welcome back Jazzlinker Craig Stevenson Scott on drums.
Jazzlinks has made Vespers services something of a specialty; this is our sixth Vespers service, and our second performance at St. Andrew’s. Our musical selections cover a wide variety of styles: we perform hymns from the rich gospel tradition, Tin Pan Alley jazz tunes; modal jazz; and the modern ballads of our pianist Roy Sluyter, Director of Music at Eagleridge United Church.
Jazzlinks’s reason for being is “connectivity”: the group provides a link to the music they love; the music links them to each other, to audiences and congregants, and to something that is greater than the individual links.
