An Introduction to The New Testament

Five Wednesday evenings (7 to 9 pm) with Prof. Harry Maier, from the Vancouver School of Theology, starting on April 25th and continuing through to May 23rd. Harry has led programmes here at St. Andrew’s Wesley a couple of times in the past (most recently, “Jesus at the Movies”), and people have very much appreciated and enjoyed his teaching. A tentative outline of what Harry will cover:  April 25 – What got included in the New Testament, and why is this important, and what does this tell us about God and God’s revelation? May 2 – Jesus as a historical figure (in the context of the Roman Empire) and an exploration of “the Kingdom of God” and Jesus’ parables May 9 – Looking at the Gospels as post-Easter witnesses May 16 – Paul as an anti-colonial apostle in the Roman Empire May 23 – The rest of the New Testament Please register at office@standrewswesley.com

Jazz Vespers May 6

Parker Woods' new group, Otra, is Inspired by the abstract improvisational paintings of the mid 20th century known as Art Autre, or; art of another kind. The sound is a coming together of jazz, modern popular music and chamber music following the improvisational nature of both Art Autre and Jazz, Otra blurs the lines between music written and improvised, stirring together a wash of colour and sound to inspire a thoughtful listening experience. Otra features five of Vancouver’s finest young improvisers with Natasha D'Agostino on voice, Thad Bailey-Mai on trumpet, Stephen Edwards on bass, Miles Wong on drums, and Parker Woods on guitar. St. Andrew's Wesley Church is the perfect space to hear this music and we would be thrilled to have you join us
