A few times/month

This program offers a very basic introduction to Christianity, and as the title suggests, it truly is an exploration….with video resources, mini-presentations, lots of questions and discussion. We recommend it for people who are thinking about membership, and for all of us who feel like we could benefit from a “tune-up”. If you are interested in taking this journey, Dan would love to speak with you.

Our faith is always changing and growing, and we are called to go ever deeper. They are a number of key areas in the journey of faith that are helpful to explore. A series of “modules” is being developed that will cover such key concerns as: Old Testament/Hebrew Scripture; New Testament; Theology; History; Ethics; Spiritual Practices; What does it mean to be a follower of  Jesus?

These topics will be offered as six-week study sessions, and can be taken in any sequence. Usually a different foundational course will be offered in each season of church life. They are being designed to help each of us explore more deeply what it means to be a follower of Jesus, a disciple, to know more about what our faith means, and what it calls us to be and do.

This fall, 2016, we will begin this program with an exploration of the Old Testament. Professor Pat Dutcher-Walls, who teaches Old Testament studies at Vancouver School of Theology, will be offering a four-week overview of the Old Testament, join Thursday evenings, 7 to 9 pm, starting on Oct. 13th, and continuing to Nov. 3rd. This will then be followed by two evenings with a Rabbi, who will offer a Jewish understanding of the Old Testament/Hebrew Scriptures. (Dates to be determined)

In late January- February, Gary Paterson will be offering a six-week exploration of one of the Gospels, so that we develop a better understanding of the life and ministry of Jesus.

Growing in faith means being intentional about strengthening and deepening our relationship with God.  It’s not just a question of “head knowledge” but discovering what it means to be connected with the Holy in prayer, or through other spiritual practices.

Starting in the fall people are invited to come together at the church for a time of prayer.  Each session will begin with some teaching about a particular way of praying (e.g., contemplative, Lectio Divina, Ignation, etc.), and then we will spend time in prayer; and conclude with an opportunity to debrief and talk about our experience.

SMALL GROUP MINISTRY

In 2017 we will be offering a new opportunity for people to be involved in small groups, called “Life Groups,” where people will come together twice a month, in on-going groups of perhaps 8 to 12 people (including a group leader/facilitator) to talk about their faith, to explore questions, to connect with others at a deeper level, to be supported in their faith journeys, to pray together.
