DESCRIPTION:As we near the 100th Anniversary of our denomination, we will explore the origins of The United Church of Canada and the way in which a young church emerged in a young nation.  We will engage with both the challenges and promises which are a part of the legacy of our denomination:  \n\nthe emergence of women in leadership\nthe inclusion of the 2SLGBTQI+ community\nthe engagement with a theology which is dynamic and evolving and which resists doctrinal straight jackets\nthe commitment to right relations with indigenous nations and the acknowledgement of past wrongs with regard to the church’s participation in colonization and the residential schools system. \nWe will also discuss the way in which our past informs our visions for the future of our emerging church.\n\n \nThe Rev. Dr. Brian Thorpe is a former lecturer at VST, congregational minister of many years, and a national leader in the ongoing work of reconciliation.  Humble, wise and extremely knowledgeable, this is a series you don’t want to miss!\n\n
