SUMMARY:Jazz Vespers Black History Month with Jeanne Rudd’s Bebop Band
DESCRIPTION:Jeanne stands out for her scatting which she absorbed as a child by going everywhere with her Montreal jazz bassist father, Bob Rudd (deceased), who is known for recording the 1st Be-Bop record in Canada in 1946.\nIn April 2023, Jeanne won an award for “Most Inspiring Jazz Vocalist” sponsored by Tom Lee Music and Maria’s Records. The adjudicator, Steve Maddock, a prominent vocalist, an actor and part of the Jazz Faculty at Capilano University wrote:\n“Very fresh tempo…some amazing back phrasing…Bravo! I really wish some of my jazz voice students at Capilano U could see and hear this performance …your playfulness and fearlessness are wonderful to behold!” “I really love the ‘conversationalism‘ of your delivery…love the improv scat!…I love how you play around with this melody, staying true to the composer but inserting your own unique interpretation…scat off the top – great!”\n
