*We have moved to our Salons (1018 Nelson St.)
In 1991, the age of 24, Brad auditioned for Mercer Ellington on a dance gig in Bermuda. In the section were long time Ellington trombonists Chuck Conners, Buster Cooper and Britt Woodman. It was common practice for Ellington Orchestra members to “lose” parts once they had committed them to memory, so Brad had to play the first trombone part for 3 sets of music (approximately 36 songs) from memory. After the first set, Chuck Conners who was also the “straw boss” took Brad up to Mercer and demanded that he be hired on the spot. Brad Then spent the next 15 years of his life as a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra and Chuck, Buster and Britt became his close friends and mentors.
The best compliment I ever received was from Buster and Britt who said: “It’s a shame Duke isn’t around. He would definitely have loved the way you play!.
This concert is dedicated to Chuck, Brit and Buster and the memory of the great Duke Ellington.
