“Anita Eccleston and her sextet will start with a whimsical and jazzy interstellar journey though space (Fly Me To The Moon) to eventually land in contemplative despair in the midst of the her own, Island Lament. The sonic journey continues with her funk treatment of Scarlet Scribbles, a punchy reflection on life’s contradictions leading naturally into the rhythm driven, Mirror. An inspired future opens up on the intricate New Skies; a cover of local phenom songwriters, Dan Mangan + Blacksmith. Your voyage continues with colourful chords and heartfelt lyrics into a sweet song of hope and goodbyes in a new original titled, Braid. Her last song, a fan favourite called The Good Life, will feature the multifaceted cellist Doug Gorkoff on magnificent countermelodies to Anita’s simple, sweet refrains over a beachy ukulele.
Please join us for a brief musical encounter, cutting through the nonsense to focus on the the little details that make life and love beautiful.”
Vancouver-based bandleader Anita Eccleston’s acrobatic voice and lyrical trumpet style honour the traditions of jazz, often melding familiar and new.
