Surprised by Words: Poems and Epiphany

An Adult Study Group Facilitated by *Tim Scorer Six Wednesday Evenings 7:00-9:00, January 16, 23, and 30; February 13, 20, and 27 In The Salons, at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church, Nelson St., Vancouver   In his book ‘The Splash of Words’, Mark Oakley writes about the power of poems to bring “epiphany or surprise moments of recognition which then ask us to re-imagine the world in some fresh way, our comprehension deepened.” Would you join me in this season of Epiphany to see if Oakley is on to something? Shall we go like pilgrim Magi to be surprised, bewildered, graced, and rendered worded and wordless by the splash of words from poets out there and right here? We may have to set aside whatever poetry has been for us up to now as we open ourselves to the mystery that is waiting to be revealed if we put our belief in poetry. Tim Scorer   Please register at (office@standrewswesley.com) or signing up at the ‘Ask Me Desk’ in the Narthex (Lobby) after morning worship. Registration is free and opens Sunday, December 9th.   *Tim Scorer has facilitated adult study groups in many settings for the past four decades including at St. Andrew’s-Wesley. It seems that in every decade of his life, he is required to come to the gift of poetic language in a new way. He is excited to have this opportunity once again in this season of pilgrimage and epiphanies.
