Christopher Berner is an Alberta-born, BC-based trumpet player, composer and arranger. He recently obtained a Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto (2022), and a Bachelor’s Degree from Capilano University (2018). Christopher has performed with and arranged music for jazz greats such as Maria Schneider, Bria Skonberg, Bobby Shew, Brad Turner, and Peter Bernstein, and performs regularly as a freelancer in the Lower Mainland. As a composer, his music has been presented at the International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers (ISJAC) Symposia in Colorado (2019) and Texas (2022). Christopher has studied trumpet with Brad Turner, Chase Sanborn, John MacLeod, Johnny Summers, and Gareth Jones, and composition and arranging with Fred Stride, Terry Promane, and John Korsrud. In 2019, 2021, and 2022 Christopher was selected to participate in the Hard Rubber Orchestra Reading Session for Emerging Composers.
