The Ben MacRae Adventide Sextet is a yearly ensemble that is directed by St. Andrew’s-Wesley’s own Jazz Ministries Coordinator, that seeks to explore the wisdom of the Christian tradition through offering original music that draws upon sacred and secular themes. The ensemble features some of Vancouver’s best musicians – people who Ben has called together for love of their art and the ways that they bring presence and gravitas to the jazz community of BC. All the music they play has been composed and arranged by Ben MacRae in spiritual offering, thanksgiving, contemplation and journeying with the Creator. As an ensemble and individual musicians, they acknowledge that they work, play, compose, improvise, live, and exist on the ancestral, unceded and stolen territories of the Coast Salish, Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples, and give further thanks to the Black American pioneers of the jazz idiom upon which they continue to expand and build.
