Coloratura soprano Magdalena How is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Opera Performance at the University of British Columbia, under the tutelage of Nancy Hermiston. With a passion for telling stories through song, Magdalena savours every chance to sing onstage, from musical theatre to choral music to opera. Her recent roles include Susanna (Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro), Olympia (Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann), and Queen of the Night (Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte) with UBC Opera.

Magda enjoys singing regularly at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church, and is thrilled to be part of the leadership team for the Children’s Choir. She has always loved working with kids, having spent a lot of time working with children and young adults both in a classroom setting and in a performance setting (including working as a counsellor at the UBC Summer Vocal Workshop, volunteering with children’s choirs and supervising children backstage at UBC Opera, and working with the Arts Umbrella Pre-Professional Musical Theatre Troupe). She and her husband, bass Philip Wing, are looking forward to welcoming their first child in May 2024.
