Sister Jazz Orchestra, Canada’s only all-female professional jazz orchestra, has been delighting Vancouver jazz audiences and providing visible female role models in jazz since 2019. Our mission: Showcasing today’s top jazzwomen to inspire tomorrow’s.
Now – here’s a more intimate way to enjoy the artistry of these powerful jazzwomen.
Every Sister Jazz Quintet performance will feature a different combination of Sister Jazz Orchestra artists, giving you a window into the unique artistry of each of our individual musicians. This debut presentation will be led by saxophonist Ingrid Stitt.

INGRID STITT
Ingrid Stitt is a Canadian musician, based in Vancouver, who is highly regarded as a saxophonist, composer and arranger.

She formed The Legends of Burnaby in 2015 to reconnect with the pop songs of her youth, “songs that shook and shaped my world.” The band’s first recording, When Days Were Long, was released in 2018. Stitt co-leads the hard bop sextet Sonny’s Cousin with trumpeter Daniel Hersog. Both leaders write and arrange for the band creating contemporary music that swings and soars in a unique and inimitable style. Stitt is also one of the resident musicians with the Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir.
BONNIE NORTHGRAVES
Bonnie is a trumpet player, vocalist and pianist based in Vancouver, BC. Drawn to vintage jazz at an early age, she performs music from the 20s, 30s and 40s as well as composes her own original music in the vintage style. Her singing is smokey and rich and her trumpet playing is a call to the early jazz styles of New Orleans.

Bonnie has released 2 albums: Between Then and Now (2019) and Welcome to Trashland (2021) and one EP, Bonnie Northgraves and the Brown Sugar Bears (2020).
She regularly performs with the Bonnie Northgraves Duo/Trio/Quartet, Company B Jazz Band and Sister Jazz Orchestra.
SHANNON THUE
Pianist/vocalist, Shannon Thue (pronounced “too-ee” or “2E”), grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan and began studying both piano and voice at an early age.

In 2005, Shannon directed and arranged music for a CBC/Radio Canada show called Chantez la Femme. The show was recorded live in Saskatoon and showcased an eclectic mix of female fransaskois singers and songwriters. In 2008, the Shannon Thue Trio was recorded live and featured on CBC’s “Concerts on Demand.” In 2007, her trio released an album, The Road Less Travelled.
From 2005 to 2010, she was a member of the traditional jazz band Mighty Aphrodite, recording 4 albums and performing at music festivals across the United States.
In addition to Sister Jazz Orchestra, Shannon currently performs with the Shannon Thue Trio, Now’s the Time Trio, Heron Quintet, the funk band Deep End, and sings in the world-renowned Phoenix Chamber Choir.
JODI PROZNICK
Juno-nominated bassist, composer, bandleader, and educator Jodi Proznick has earned a reputation as one of Canada’s finest jazz artists. She has won numerous National Jazz Awards, including Bassist of the Year in 2008 and 2009 and Western Canada Music Awards Jazz Artist of the Year in 2019. Her group, the Jodi Proznick Quartet, was awarded the Acoustic Group of the Year and Album of the Year in 2008 and the Galaxie Rising Star at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival in 2004.

Jodi has performed with many of Canada’s top jazz musicians, including PJ Perry, Don Thompson, Kirk MacDonald, Guido Basso, Oliver Gannon, Dee Daniels, Phil Dwyer, and Laila Biali. She is regularly in demand to perform and record with visiting jazz artists including Michael Bublé, Byron Stripling, Michael Feinstein, David “Fathead” Newman, Bucky Pizzarelli, Ed Thigpen, Jeff Hamilton, Peter Bernstein, Charles McPherson, Seamus Blake, George Coleman, Sheila Jordan, Mark Murphy, Harold Mabern, Eric Alexander, and Lewis Nash. In addition to recording two of her own Juno-nominated CDs as a leader, Jodi has been featured on over 40 recordings as a side person.
In 2022, Jodi co-founded the all-female Canadian jazz supergroup, The Ostara Project, which will release their debut album with a Western Canada tour in November.

JAMIE LEE
Jamie Lee is a drummer/composer based in Vancouver. She is one of the rising artists in Vancouver’s jazz scene, known for her expressive and sensitive approach on the drums and her unique compositions.

In addition to Sister Jazz Orchestra, Jamie is currently involved in many groups including: Porteau, Spindle!, Dean Thiessen’s Stranger Friends, Chris Berner Big Band, and VYCE (Vancouver’s Young Composers Ensemble), as well as her own group Jamie Lee Trio. Jamie also has recorded numerous projects including Amanda Sum’s debut singles Group Think, Mary Shelly, and Hot Headed Egos.
Jamie Lee Trio released a full-length debut album, Introspective in 2020, consisting of Jamie’s original music inspired by exploring soundscapes and crossing over boundaries of different genres/styles.
